Hey there...Lauren here

Hey! TGIF everyone! We're all heading out to Velocity in just a few hours and I'm excited because I just added some news songs to my ipod shuffle. I haven't been bringing my music to our workouts and it's hard to keep motivated when we run for long distances. I love my shuffle - it's not bulky at all and I can clip it onto the waist of my shorts and it doesn't drag me down because it is lighter than a feather!! My shuffle is purple but there are tons of great colors you can choose based on your mood.

On top of doing my workouts at Velocity, I'm also playing on an all girls flag-football league at my University. We're 2-0 right now, and I love that I'm finding a variety of ways to be active besides going to a gym. Gary keeps promising that we're going to play basketball or football or baseball...or some sport...one of these days, but we're yet to do it. Can't wait for the Girl's Team to show the boys what we're all about!!

Have a happy weekend everyone - and happy national one-hit wonder day!

Inspirational Quote: James

this is what gets me going in the morning....

~ Exercise ferments the humors, casts them into their proper channels, throws off redundancies, and helps nature in those secret distributions, without which the body cannot subsist in its vigor, nor the soul act with cheerfulness. ~

Working out is saving my life and i am grateful for the opportunity Velocity Sports Performance is giving the buzz crew.  We are like you... we work hard almost all day... sometime when we sleep we're thinking about working because we want to make the show better for our viewers.  With that said eating and sleeping becomes very easy to do... but my son and wife are so important to me that i have to find the time to work out i want to see my great great great grandchildren... I wonder if working out could help me live forever?  Just joking!!!

back to business: James Mr. Incredible

I've missed the last two days of the training and i miss training so much it hurts.  This is a life changing event for me.  But and its a big but i have to work to pay the bills and produce segments for the show.  I work out on my own after i workout with the group soi i don't feel too guilty.  I'm going to win this challenge.  Why? Cause i'm the Best!  Confidence is key until Gary makes us run until the shoes comes off.  More cardio!  More Cardio!
Today i'm going back and it's time to put on a show.  Ladies Love Cool James!

Mike D. back to blog it out of my system!

Hey all!  So I'm on week five and I feel fantastic.  Actually I feel a little guilty since I had to miss two days last week due to back to back 15 hour days here at The Buzz.  Even with the extra couple of days off from Velocity I made sure I got out and stayed active by running, golfing and my new favorite past time disc golfing.  Back to Velocity, yesterday was a lower body killer and I'm looking forward to today as Wednesdays are focused on core, which is where I need the most improvement!!!!!  Gotta tighten up the midsection!  My cardio and stamina are vastly improved from day one.  Love it Love it Love it!  Thanks to all the hard work by Gary and Steve at Velocity!  I'll catch in a while!

Ramona Buzzing In

I haven't blogged since I started, but after 3 weeks of training with Gary I'm starting to see a difference. First in my energy levels and now in my physical appearance. I haven't lost any weight, but instead gained weight. Not sure why, but I'm going to continue on the path for success. On Thursday and Friday of last week Gary allowed me to do boxing exercises as my cardio where James began to coach me thru the process further. I broke more of a sweat working with the punching bag than doing anything else. I like boxing now and my take up a few classes once this challenge is over. Just because the challenge ends in 5 months doesn't mean that I stop getting in shape!

The tough get going: James

i know in order to lose the weight i must step things up.  Today i started lifting heavier weights for some exercises.  y muscle memory is coming back and my wife is taking notice but i don't see it.  Crazy huh!

I stay motivated but i wanted to know why i stayed motivated and others didn't... so i checked out this website and this is what i learned...

Why People Stop Working Out
The problem with working out for most people is that after some time, the motivation to workout dries out. The following are the most common reasons:

Wrong strategy
With so much information out there, this really shouldn’t be a problem. The basic formula to lose weight is to eat less calories than you burn or burn more calories than you eat. To gain weight, it’s the opposite. If you the motivation to workout everyday but eat more calories than you're burning, you're going to be disappointed.

As long as you don’t buy into those quick-results-with-no-work-and-eat-anything-you-want schemes, you should be fine.

Lack of results
Too many people start working out with the expectation of some amazing result in too short of a time span. So when results don’t meet up to their expectations, they get discouraged and quit.

Slowed progress
Thinking that your results will stay consistent will just end up disappointing you. In the beginning, you may have some great results. You may lose 5-10 pounds your very first week. But as the weeks go by, you will find yourself losing less and less. Not knowing this in advance can be very discouraging when it happens.

Hitting a plateau
When you start working out, your results will be very encouraging. Your motivation to workout will increase as you see these amazing results. However, sooner or later, you will hit what’s known as a plateau. Athletes experience this all the time. You get to the point where results not only slow down, it actually stops. This can definitely be pretty frustrating.

Satisfaction
This is when you get to the point where you’ve loss enough weight to where you feel satisfied. You’re not where you want to be at but it’s not bad enough for you to want to do much about it. At this point, your motivation to workout may drop since your reason for working out is no longer strong enough. You may stop working out all together until your body gets to a point where it causes your motivation to workout to increase again and you start to workout again.

All of the above reasons that cause most people to quit working out happened to me over the years and have caused my motivation to workout deteriorate, but I’ve figured out how to overcome all of them. So let me share those strategies with you now.

Setting a Goal; Lauren

I had such a great weekend!  I went to visit my family who I hadn't seen in a longg time...but that also meant a lot of that good southern home cookin'!  It was fun at the time but when Monday rolled around, I knew I went overboard!  Gary made us work hard yesterday and my arms were shaking like jello molds by the end of our 1-hr sesh.

I think my ultimate goal in this fitness challenge is to complete a triathalon.  And I really don't care if I have to walk for most of the run part (although, obivously, it would ROCK if I could run it!) - as long as I finish all three parts and DO it, I'll be happy.  That's the best thing about this challenge: it's making us push ourselves more than we thought we could.  I found a great website that lists all of the triathalons in the US - just pick your state and voila!  CHeck it out, and maybe you could find one you want to train for:  http://trifind.com/

What's your goal?

Manic Monday: James

As you can see i'm writing this post on tuesday because i worked extra hard yesterday.  I worked overtime during our session and at home.  my body hurts but i know that if i continue i will look the way i want to.  ladies get ready

Too Easy!

Travis here.  Now, we're each doing this for different reasons and with different goals in mind.  But one of the main goals is just showing up.  After that, we're motivated by our trainer, Coach Gary, to push and challenge ourselves.  He tells us what to do, and we do it.  He'll demonstrate each new exercise first for us and then say, "Too easy."  Sometimes it is, like when we had to step up and down on a box for 45 seconds- definitely easy.  Sometimes it isn't, like when we had to run our mile outside in the relentless Florida sun.  Next up, our 2 mile and later on a 5K!  Although it's hard work and it may hurt, we know that in the end it will all pay off.  It's really that easy.

YES! I am doing this great opportunity, OK??!!! - Mitch

My name is Mitch.  I'm the loudmouth weather guy on the show.  Do you remember that great scene in the movie "Stripes" where Ox, played by the late/great John Candy, was telling his story to the group on the first night of Basic?  He starts off with "My friends call me Ox. I dont know if you've noticed, but I got a slight weight problem."  He then goes on to say that he's jumped from gym to gym trying to lose weight and finally signs on to join the Army because its like a free health club so that he can get into shape.  While my story is not 100% the same as Ox's, but it does mean that in order to get in shape and be healthy, you might have to do some "Basic Training" and learn the things you need to learn to keep it going your entire life.  That's what I am hoping from all of this.  I messed up my knee a while back, so I am a little concerned about that.  The rest of the gang tells me they are puking and I'm intimidated about that too.  I have waited to begin the program because of my vacation time.  I think that is going to work against me.  Let's see.  Let's rock.

Im Slacking, ARGHHHHHHH!; Natalie

Ok so here's the deal, I started VELOCITY about 2 weeks ago and the first week was SO intense I totally threw up on day two!!! But the training you get at this place is amazing and more than that the trainers are right there every step of the way. Unfortunately, I was unable to make it this whole week and Im terrified at what awaits me next week; but this is a LIFE CHANGING experience, especially for me. I've got the most to lose on the girls team and I really want to change my body and change my life. So starting on MONDAY come super intense sun or scary hurricane Im taking my butt to VELOCITY.

With just one week of this training I feel better, VERY SORE, but oh so much better!!! I'm really looking forward to a new leaner, healthier Natalie.

Talk to you soon,
Im outta here!

Working out the fingers

Hi, I'm Travis.  I'm a motivational coach for the guy's team, which means I tell them not to eat the donuts lying around the studio and make sure they show up to work-out.  This is a great opportunity for all of us.  With our night-shift schedule and high-stress work environment, it's really difficult for us to get proper sleep and exercise.  After starting this program two weeks ago, many of us have noticed how much more energy we have- despite working ourselves to exhaustion during our sessions.  I personally have been the most focused I've been in a long time and have gotten so many things accomplished.  And it's really been a bonding experience, too.  I think if we all stick to this and motivate and challenge each other, we'll all achieve the results we want.  Thanks for reading!
Check out our website for our bios and pics!

Just got done with week 3; Mike D.

Hey all,

It's Mike D. director of The Daily Buzz.  Wish I started blogging a bit earlier but my schedule has been hectic the past couple of weeks.  So I'm on week 3 of training with Velocity and I've gotta say I've never felt better in my life, sore yes but what a difference already.  Gary and Steve know exactly how hard to push you and I can already see the improvements in my overall health and the shape I'm in, not to mention the amount of energy I've got right now.  I feel like I've got energy for days!  I haven't worked out this hard since college, which by the way was 11 years ago......yeah I'm getting old I know.  Which is one of the reasons that I'm taking this as serious as possible, I work hard at Velocity and the results are fantastic.  I'm getting excited about what changes will happen to my overall shape, stamina and energy in the coming weeks!  I may finally get to the point where I can take my shirt off and not be embarassed.  Stay tuned.  Velocity ROCKS!!!!!!

YOW

Hi everyone!! IT'S FRIDAY! AMEN!!!  I hope everyone is enjoying there Friday as much I am by watching Miley Cryus on The Today Show.  Anyhoo~My name's Lauren...and I'm on the girl's team.  I'm feeling so sore today - yesterday our trainer KILLED our calf's and I can really feel it when I'm walking.  But I'm so glad we're all going through this together.  There's no question that doing it with a team makes you want to push yourself harder.  And as much as I call this "torture" I know there will be a great pay-off for all of us and I'm so excited!

Are you sore today?  Let me know how you're getting through it!

It isn't easy

Our trainer for the weight loss challenge is not giving us any breaks.. .yesterday when we worked out he worked us every minute we were there.  On the one hand i am grateful on the other hand i need a massage... a full body massage.  But in the ned it will all work out... It was easy to put on and hard to take off.

Another thing that has been hard is eating so i google some info on nutrition... check it out... http://www.nutritiondata.com/

it's helping me keep tabs on what i am eating and what i should saty away from...

Monday was a trip

So we officially started the weight loss challenge today and it was not easy. When i got to velocity Garry our trainer was putting the crew through their paces and it was hard. The girls complained so much if you translated it too money i would be rich right now. But in all seriousness it was tough. It's crazy how when putting on the weight you're all smiles but when you're trying to lose it boy is it all frowns... this will be a long journey... that was mouthfuls of food in the making.

But in this competition between the men and women of the buzz i will come out on top no doubt!

I am a champion!
